Clark’s Promise humbly serves people who are chronically homeless and unsheltered in Raleigh NC. Each person’s story is unique and the barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness are widespread. From finding a safe place to sleep, to where to get a warm meal, to accessing medical care, the Homeless Engagement Team is able to help meet people where they are and provide person-centered assistance. Clark’s Promise believes engagement and relationship building is the first step in relieving the daily sufferings of people experiencing homelessness.
Clark’s Promise partners with SouthLight Healthcare to fund two engagement specialists who work in the community to build relationship and connect people with services.
As an MSW and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Kathryn has extensive experience working with clients though program development, individual counseling, and case management.
As a graduate of NC State with a degree in Communications, Amanda understands that engagement happens in a variety of ways. She brings compassion to her daily work and loves helping our friends experiencing homelessness. She comes to Clark’s Promise with significant experience volunteering with local partners, such as Love Wins Engagement Center and the Oak City Outreach Center.
How We Help
Everyone we serve is special and has a unique story to tell. The Homeless Engagement Team takes the time to listen, get to know the stories and needs of the individual, and assists in solving immediate needs and works on long-term goals.
1. We Build Trust
Meeting people where they are, with no agenda, the Homeless Engagement Team strives to develop a trusting and mutually respectful relationship. For many, trusting someone new is difficult and the team offers genuine support and compassion.
2. Needs Are Assessed
Once a relationship has been established, the team works with individuals to determine what they need—be that shelter, a hot meal, medical supplies, or behavioral health care. We work alongside people to help them increase safety, alleviate suffering, and work on long term goals of improvement as determined by the individual.
3. We Provide Essentials
The Homeless Engagement Team is equipped with commonly needed items like socks, sleeping bags, backpacks, tents, water, snacks, and other items to make each day a little better. Clark’s Promise has also expanded on its partnership with SouthLight Healthcare and also works with local pharmacies to ensure individuals have access to daily medications in addition to behavioral health, substance abuse treatment and primary care services.
4. We Navigate and Transport
Transportation is a barrier to many services and resources. The Homeless Engagement Team works with individuals to create plans for transportation and will often provide transportation to important appointments. The team also helps with navigating the daunting process of applying for benefits or accessing a valid ID.
